Yilo Krobo District’s Amazing Umbrella Rock
The centuries-old Umbrella Rock is located in the Yilo Krobo District, approximately 22 kilometers from Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region. The mysterious rock is located about seven kilometers from Boti Falls, so tourists who visit Boti Falls usually take advantage of the opportunity to pass by and experience nature’s mystery. The top of the rock offers an incredible view of the surrounding valley as well as excellent photo opportunities. The rock’s shape is unique, with one large surface rock sitting beautifully on top of a smaller rock, creating an umbrella-like shape. This one-of-a-kind rock can comfortably accommodate 15 to 20 people while protecting them from rain or sun. According to Yilo Krobo natives, the rock was discovered by a hunter who had gone hunting in the forest decades ago. He returned to town, told his people what had happened, and led them to the strange-looking rock. Since then, the Umbrella Rock has grown to become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Eastern Region. The Umbrella Rock continues to astound tourists who are perplexed as to how such a massive surface rock could sit on such a small base for so long without falling or the smaller rock wearing away, causing a fall. A visit to the Umbrella Rock in Yilo Krobo is a must-see for any tourist visiting the Eastern Region of Ghana. Its unique shape, impressive balance, and cultural significance make it a fascinating and memorable destination. Be sure to bring your camera and capture the beauty of this natural wonder. Meet Monica Nancy Candny, First Class Maritime Engineering Graduate
Monica Nancy Candny, a female student at Accra’s Regional Maritime University, announced her graduation on LinkedIn. She mentioned in her post that she graduated with first-class honors, which is nothing short of amazing given that she was one of the probably very few women in her year group. The International Maritime Organization has outlined structures put in place to attract more women into the industry and to amplify the few who are already there as part of its Women in Maritime celebration this year. According to their website, women were barred from entering the maritime industry until 1988, when a few institutions opened their doors to them. 34 years later, the percentage of women in the industry is still far from equal to that of men. Women like Monica who show promise and excellence in the industry must be supported and celebrated in this regard. Monica, who is originally from Liberia, attended St. Michael Catholic School for her secondary education before enrolling in the Liberia Maritime Training Institute to pursue an associate degree in Marine Electrical Engineering. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering from Regional Maritime University. Monica Nancy Candny wrote: “…Finally, I am leaving Regional Maritime University with flying Colors. The battle was not easy at all, but with God all things are possible. I am grateful for his grace, blessings, Favor, wisdom and Knowledge. Today I have graduated with first-class honor in BSc Marine Engineering, I am grateful to God. If were not for God where could I have been? Thanks to Liberia Maritime Authority, Liberia’s international ship and Corporate registries, Liberia Maritime Training Institute, my family, my mentors, Linkedin friends and everyone who contributed to my success. Thanks, for making me who I am today. The Liberia Maritime Authority ,Liberia International ships and corporate registries and Liberia Maritime Training Institute, Once again thank you so much for everything .I do appreciate your full support, effort, Care, and guidance. If you dream it you can achieve it…” Her post has received nearly 30,000 interactions, with people congratulating her and encouraging her to keep up the good work. Monica ended her post with the following quote: “Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue counts. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” — Steve Jobs READ NEXT ON: Prof. Francis Allotey, First Ghanaian to Receive a Doctorate in Mathematics

The Relevance of Brand Awareness
Have you ever heard someone call themselves an “Apple person,” a “MTN person,” or a “Papaye person”? This is the relevance of brand awareness: it can integrate itself into consumer lifestyles and purchasing habits so that they don’t have to think twice before becoming a customer time and time again. Brand awareness may appear to be a hazy concept, and it is. Brand awareness will likely ruffle the feathers of marketers and business owners who like to measure success with neat and tidy numbers. But just because it isn’t a metric that can be precisely calculated doesn’t mean it isn’t valuable. Brand awareness is critical for business success and overall marketing objectives. This is why. What is Brand Awareness? Brand awareness refers to the level of familiarity and recognition that consumers have with a particular brand. It is an essential aspect of marketing that influences consumer behavior and purchase decisions. The relevance of brand awareness lies in its ability to increase the chances of a brand being considered and chosen by consumers over competitors. Relevance of Brand Awareness Brand awareness creates a positive image of a brand in the minds of consumers and enhances brand loyalty. Consumers are more likely to choose a brand they are familiar with, and they tend to associate familiar brands with quality and trust. Therefore, building brand awareness is crucial for businesses that want to establish a strong presence in their markets and increase their customer base. Brand awareness can also help businesses to differentiate themselves from their competitors. A well-known brand can stand out in a crowded marketplace and attract new customers. In addition, brand awareness can also provide businesses with a competitive advantage, as it can increase the perceived value of a brand, leading to higher prices and increased profitability. Finally, brand awareness can also contribute to the long-term success of a business. When a brand is well-known, it can become a valuable asset for the business, increasing its overall value and providing opportunities for expansion into new markets or product lines. Therefore, investing in building and maintaining brand awareness can be a wise business strategy that can pay off in the long run. Overall, building and maintaining brand awareness should be a top priority for businesses of all sizes and industries. The benefits of brand awareness are numerous and far-reaching, including increased sales, profitability, customer loyalty, and long-term success. With the right marketing strategies and tactics, businesses can establish themselves as leaders in their markets and gain the trust and loyalty of their customers. History of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST)
The now Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST), which was then the University of Science and Technology succeeded the Kumasi College of Technology. The school was established by a Government Ordinance on 6th October 1951. It was, however, opened officially on 22nd January 1952 with 200 Teacher Training students transferred from Achimota, to form the nucleus of the new College. In October 1952, the School of Engineering and the Department of Commerce were established and the first students were admitted. From 1952 to 1955, the School of Engineering prepared students for professional qualifications only. In 1955, the School embarked on courses leading to the University Of London Bachelor Of Engineering External Degree Examinations. A Pharmacy Department was established in January 1953, with the transfer of the former School of Pharmacy from Korle-Bu Hospital, Accra, to the College. The Department ran a two-year comprehensive course in Pharmacy leading to the award of the Pharmacy Board Certificate. A Department of Agriculture was opened in the same year to provide a number of ad hoc courses of varying duration, from a few terms to three years, for the Ministry of Agriculture. A Department of General Studies was also instituted to prepare students for the Higher School Certificate Examinations in both Science and Arts subjects and to give instruction in such subjects as were requested by the other departments. Once established, the College began to grow and in 1957, the School of Architecture, Town Planning and Building was inaugurated its first students were admitted in January 1958, for professional courses in Architecture, Town Planning, and Building. As the College expanded, it was decided to make the Kumasi College of Technology a purely science and technology institution. In pursuit of this policy, the Teacher Training College, with the exception of the Art School, was transferred in January 1958, to the Winneba Training College, and in 1959 the Commerce Department was transferred to Achimota to form the nucleus of the present School of administration of the University of Ghana, Legon. The Birth of KNUST In December 1960, the Government of Ghana appointed a University Commission to advise it on the future development of University Education in Ghana, in connection with the proposal to transform the University College of Ghana and the Kumasi College of Technology into an independent University of Ghana. Following the report of the commission which came out in early 1961, the Government decided to establish two independent universities in Kumasi and Legon near Accra. The Kumasi College of Technology was thus transformed into a full-fledged University and renamed Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology by an Act of Parliament on 22nd August 1961. The University’s name was changed to the University of Science and Technology after the Revolution of 24th February 1966. The University of Science and Technology was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, 20th November 1961. However, by another act of Parliament, Act 559 of 1998, the University has been renamed Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.
