From STEM to Pageantry: Ghanaian Teen Wins Teen Universe USA and Shows Versatility

Vanessa Adwoa Rose Smith, a 19-year-old Ghanaian who resides in the United States, has been named Teen Univers USA after winning the same beauty pageant in Arizona State. As a result of this victory, Ms. Smith will represent the United States in Spain in February 2023. She was born to a Ghanaian father, Charles Smith, and a Sierra Leonean mother, Hawa Smith. Vanessa is a graduate of Hamilton High School and is currently studying systems engineering at Arizona State University.

In an interview, Vanessa explained her interest in pageantry, saying, “What drew me to pageantry is my desire to be able to be versatile and adaptable. I love school and everything in between but I also love the arts. I am so grateful to have parents who have supported and encouraged me through every venture I took on.” Vanessa believes that there is no correlation between the arts and STEM and that individuals should not limit themselves to one identity. This is why she decided to pursue pageantry. It enables contestants to display different aspects of their personalities. They can be studious and ambitious while also being poised, beautiful, and leading with their character.

Vanessa is looking forward to participating in the upcoming contest in Spain. She says, “I am currently preparing for the International competition that will be held in Spain. I continuously do work throughout my community, mainly focusing on the youth. I am very adamant about advocating for the youth because I know personally how much we have to offer, but as young people, it is harder to be taken seriously. We are the future and my mission is to provide the youth with as many resources as possible to ensure a successful future.”

Vanessa, who is Arizona’s Top Model 2023, has a variety of hobbies, including crocheting, photography, dancing, cooking, and trying out new recipes.

Vanessa’s success in winning the Teen Univers USA pageant is a testament to her hard work and dedication. She is an excellent example of what can be achieved when one pursues their dreams with passion and determination. Vanessa’s interest in pageantry shows that young people can explore different fields and interests and still be successful in their careers.

Additionally, her commitment to advocating for youth is commendable. It highlights the importance of investing in young people and providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. Young people have a lot to offer and it is essential that they are supported and encouraged to achieve their goals. Vanessa’s mission to empower the youth is a noble one and deserves recognition.
